How to read a certificate.

What a certificate reports

A certificate reports the analyses listed on it, for the vial we received, as it was on the date we tested it. Every value is printed with the method that produced it, and a measurement error is printed as a number rather than smoothed into a verdict. The certificate says it in its own standing words:

Results relate only to the specific samples tested. Reproduce only in full.

It covers one vial, not a lot

We test what arrives. A result describes the material in the vials we received and nothing else — not the rest of that lot, not a later batch, not a different supplier's version of the same compound, and not the same lot after it has been stored, shipped, or repackaged by someone else. A certificate reproduced beside a product does not travel to other production.

Reproduce it only in full

An extract of a certificate is not a certificate. A single number lifted out of one — a purity figure without its method, its date, or the impurity reported beside it — misrepresents the work, and we treat it as a misuse of the document rather than a shortcut.

No accreditation is held or implied

Premier Analytical Sciences conducts its testing in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements; it is not an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory.

Nothing this laboratory issues is a certification mark, an approval, a registration, or a regulatory clearance, and nothing on this site or on a certificate may be presented as one. The case for believing a result here is the method printed beside it, the photograph of the vial it came from, and the fact that a record, once published, cannot afterwards be edited, unlisted, or quietly deleted — whether it flatters the material or not. That is the whole of the argument the lab is willing to make.

It is not an endorsement

In the certificate's own standing words: Premier Analytical Sciences does not endorse any company or product listed in this register. A record here states what was measured, nothing more. Testing is commissioned and paid for by the party named on the record. Paying for an analysis buys the analysis; it does not buy the result, and it does not buy the laboratory's approval of the seller.

One test is not another test

Each analysis answers only its own question, and the certificate says so: This certificate reports only the analyses listed … An endotoxin screen is not a sterility claim. Purity is not identity. Identity is not quantity. None of them is a finding about contamination that was never screened for.

It is not a safety or suitability finding

Nothing on a certificate states that a material is safe, effective, pure enough for a purpose, or fit for use in or on a person or an animal. In the certificate's own standing words: its results are intended for research use only — the material tested is not approved for human or veterinary use, or for therapeutic, diagnostic, or clinical applications. Results should be interpreted by qualified professionals within the scope of the intended research. We do not make that determination, and no combination of values here should be read as making it. A certificate is not medical advice, not a quality approval, and not a substitute for whatever regulatory approval a use of the material would need.

When no value can be reported

Some rows carry no number. Where a value could not be reported, the certificate prints an em dash and the controlled reason for it, and no unit — because a reason is not a measurement. That is neither a pass nor a failure: it is the laboratory declining to report a number it cannot stand behind, which is the one case where an empty space is the honest answer.

Current, flagged, withdrawn

The register shows each record's state, and two of the three are not good news. A current record is in force and unaltered. A flagged record was released with an analyst note attached, and the note is part of the record — read it. A withdrawn record was superseded or retracted and stays public permanently. A record is never deleted to make a result go away.

Checking that a certificate is real

Do not trust a PDF because it looks right. Every certificate prints its serial, an excerpt of the digest of its own contents, and the address to check it at. Look the serial up in the register: if the document in front of you disagrees with the record there, the record is what this laboratory stands behind. A private certificate is not listed — it does not appear when anyone browses or searches the register — but its exact serial, printed on the document, opens its record the same way, framed as private.

What is specimen, and what is real

The example records shown on the register are specimen — fictitious, for design review: their serials, values, commissioning parties, and photographs demonstrate the form of a record rather than any testing that was done. The certificate shown opened on these pages is the same kind of specimen. Neither is evidence that anything was tested.

A certificate issued for a real order is real. Its serial, its methods, its values, and the signature on it are the laboratory's own record, and nothing on this page qualifies them. While the register page is still showing the example set, a serial you are holding is checked with the laboratory directly rather than against those examples.

Questions about a record

Questions about a certificate go to the laboratory that signed it, not to the party who commissioned it. These notes are adopted as of [effective date · to be confirmed]; the terms they sit under are on the terms of service page.
